Tim said he had nothing further to add beyond his regular updates but returned to an issue he has raised repeatedly in previous meetings, namely the condition of Rock-a-Nore Road. He emphasised that this area remains the main tourist route, yet still looks “pretty disastrous,” and as the first thing many visitors see, it gives a poor impression not just of Rock-a-Nore but of the town as a whole.

CUG meeting 19 03 26 minutes

Some ideas discussed at the meeting today included placing history boards at various locations along the seafront, screens around rotundas, showers and various events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sidney Little being appointed as Borough Engineer, 100th anniversary of White Rock Theatre, 200th anniversary of St Leonards, setting up a heritage zone in Rock-a-Nore Road, All ideas should be forwarded to Abbie in the first instance. Officers will then look at costing these and carry out feasibility studies where necessary.

Tim reported that there have been 85-90k visitors this year to the Shipwreck Museum, with the hands-on activities still proving popular. Rock-a-Nore Road, however, is still a disgrace and as it has not reached the required level of degradation according to ESCC, nothing is being done to fix it.
