The funding will be used to support people seeking refuge in Hastings Rother. The project aims to bring people together and build strong relationships across communities through a buddy scheme matching newly-arriving people to local volunteers who they induct and train to become buddies. The grant will help to provide safe spaces organise community-led social gatherings and workshops to learn new skills improve spoken English educate communities on cultural differences and deliver a range of practical support.
£10k from The National Lottery Community Fund: Stitch For Change Patchwork Story Telling
The funding will be used to deliver embroidery and sewing workshops to support a story telling project for the refugee and migrant community. The project aims to improve community cohesion integration and potential.
£10k from Sussex Community Foundation
Funding was provided to enable them to open the Dove Café an additional 3 days per week, offering a warm space with food and hot drinks for anyone who needs a place to keep warm and with access to cheap/free food during the winter months.
£206k from The National Lottery Community Fund: The Refugee Buddy Project - New Roots
The Refugee Buddy Project (RBP) are requesting £20500 over 3 years to support their core offer of refugee support and integration in Hastings Rother and Wealden areas of East Sussex on the South Coast. RBP are a lived experience organisation set up by and for the community of refugees and newly arrived or settled individuals and families and local volunteers wishing to welcome them.
